Bivvy in the High Peak

Bivvy in the High Peak

It was a late-night last-minute decision to go off bivvying, and after saying that I would nearly every night for the past month I finally bit the bullet and went.

Initially I was planning on going all the way to Dovestone Tor, but in the end settled for a just as pleasant, but much closer place along the way.

After cycling out from Sheffield towards the peaks, I locked the bike up hidden under a tree, and covered it under a camo tarp to hopefully hide it a bit more, then continued in the dark westwards. I was very pleased to fit everything I needed for that night in my small 30L school bag, everything felt very compact and was quite satisfying to set off with only one small rucksack.

Overnight the temperature definitely hit sub-zero, with a cool frost covering the ground in the morning.

What I liked the most about this trip was the spectacular sunrise in the morning lifting up over Stanage moor.
